They place it first in their short list of needs." A Paws-a-tive FactJ.R. Ackerley "Eighty percent of dog owners buy their dog a present for holidays and birthdays. More than half of them sign letters and cards from themselves and their pets." So that's why Jazz and Jive send cards and even give gifts to those they love....even my son's kitties. Barks for Books Jazz gives a big "Woof" for this book: "Good Grief" ![]() "Sid Korpi has combined her decades of varied professional experience—as an editor, writer, journalist, English teacher, actor, and ordained minister/animal chaplain—with her lifelong devotion to the animal companions who have blessed and shared her life in creating Good Grief: Finding Peace After Pet Loss. Surviving a “tsunami of loss” in her own life led to her discovery of spiritual truths that brought her strength and facilitated her heart’s healing. She felt compelled to share these things with others who suffer—often in isolation—from the passing on of their very dearest nonhuman friends, their pets. " Reading this book will teach you: • How to emotionally prepare for a pet’s euthanasia—understanding when it’s time; • How to take care of yourself while around people who just don’t understand your pain; • How to view death not as an ending, but (as animals see it) a natural transformation; • How to memorialize and celebrate your pet’s life; and • How to move on after your loss and love again. Since reading Jives journal about nose work my H-mom told us we were gonna play the same game…..I’m excited. SPORTS FOR DOGS Did you know there are over 40 listed sports for dogs in Wikipedia and there are most definitely many more in practice. Sports for dogs represent skills the dogs naturally posses. Dogs love to fetch, chase and run to mention a few of their talents. Agility is a sport I introduced Jazz to when he was about 2 years old. He loved the obstacles and approached them all fearlessly. What I loved most about doing agility with Jazz (and Jive as well) is that we did it for fun and not competition. Almost all sports for dogs are based on competition. That is a wonderful option and both dog and handler are rewarded for their work and love of the sport. We enjoy sports for the fun and exercise. There are training programs that offer both options...competition and just for fun. Currently Jazz and Jive are doing the sport of Nosework and we do not plan on competing. This sport is one we can do in the home on rainy days and snowy days as well as outdoors. We love it! It is important to find a sport you and your dog will love doing. Since there are so many to choose from that shouldn't be a problem. So why do a sport with your dog? There are many benefits. First of all it usually involves good physical and mental stimulation for your dog; a sport suited to your dogs breed (like water trials for the Portuguese Water Dog) allows you to meet other dog handlers and learn even more about your breed of dog. There are sports for all types of dogs like agility, rally, obedience, dock dogs, and many more. There are many training schools in the Twin City area and all over the US. One of the schools we currently are attending is: Active Dog Sports Training. They emphasis doing sports for fun as well as competition. A sport gives your dog something to look forward to and something to excel at. Dogs need a purpose and something to anticipate in their life like we do. It builds the bond in your relationship with your dog. And most of all it should be FUN for both of you. I believe having fun with your dog is the most critical criteria of anything you do together. So now you can find a sport for your dog and the two of you can begin a new adventure together. Have Fun! Woofs & Smiles! FURNITURE FOR DOGS AND CATS Recently I have been looking for some pet furniture for my dogs. Some more attractive crates would be a nice touch to my home decor. I recently met and spoke with Jonas Zook Jr. who owns an Amish Pet Furniture business Pinnacle Woodcraft Jonas custom creates each piece of furniture. The selection is crates, feeders, bed ramps and even an enclosed litter box for cats and more. Going to the website will give you an opportunity to see samples of this fine Amish craftsmanship. Shipping is FREE for dog crates in the lower 48 states. He also has a monthly drawing to win a $100 gift certificate on facebook. If your dog needs a crate upgrade you might find one that meets your needs at Pinnacle Woodcraft. Tell them Jazz and Jive sent you. ![]() The Dog Show with Jazz does not share or sell your email address or other information gathered. This is a monthly newsletter you are receiving because you have had some affiliation with Donna & Jazz in the past or present.
